The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reacted to the United States' decision to impose sanctions on Indian firms linked with Iran. During a routine media briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal acknowledged the sanctions, stating that India is assessing the ramifications.
The latest sanctions from the US target 20 entities associated with Iranian oil trade, including seven Indian companies, as well as 10 vessels labeled as blocked properties. Jaiswal emphasized that India's energy procurement is determined by market and geopolitical factors, remaining silent on potential oil trade with Pakistan.
Additionally, amidst broader shifts, President Trump announced a collaborative oil venture with Pakistan. Concurrently, he authorized fresh tariffs impacting 70 countries, including India, as part of a national emergency response. These new duties could escalate global trade tensions further.
