French President Emmanuel Macron criticized the European Union's negotiation tactics with the United States, emphasizing the need for a firmer stance in future trade discussions, according to France 24.

The recent deal, overseen by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and US President Donald Trump, avoids a potential economic crisis by imposing 15% tariffs on most EU exports to the US instead of the threatened 30%. The agreement also commits the EU to major energy purchases from the US.

Macron noted the negotiations occurred under challenging circumstances but highlighted the deal's benefits for stability and strategic interests. French Finance Minister Éric Lombard echoed Macron's call for a more vigorous EU negotiation approach to enhance the bloc's global influence.
