Thailand has released two Cambodian soldiers who were captured and injured during recent border conflicts, according to an Al Jazeera report. This development comes as both nations gear up for discussions aimed at sustaining an uncertain ceasefire next week.
Maly Socheata, a spokesperson for Cambodia's Defense Ministry, confirmed the return of the soldiers and urged Thailand to repatriate other captured troops in alignment with international humanitarian law. Despite an earlier agreement to cease hostilities, 18 Cambodian troops remain detained in Thailand, their intentions disputed by Bangkok and Phnom Penh.
Both nations have utilized foreign diplomats and observers to substantiate their narratives about the conflict, which resulted in over 30 deaths and displaced 260,000 people. The ceasefire includes a meeting in Malaysia, involving military officials from both sides, to address the matter further.
