Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's founding leader, Imran Khan, has issued a call from prison for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur to resign if he fails to establish law and order. Citing sources, Geo News reported Khan's demand as tensions rise in the region.
Khan criticized Gandapur's governance capabilities, suggesting the need for new leadership amid increased terror incidents in KP and Balochistan after the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan in 2021. According to Geo News, the first seven months of 2025 witnessed 476 terror-related events in KP, with casualties including 121 civilian fatalities and over 300 injuries.
The violence also impacted security forces, claiming the lives of 66 Pakistani police officers, injuring 90 more, along with losses among the Levies, Frontier Corps, and other security entities. Concurrently, Khan has had some prison privileges restored, allowing access to reading material and communication with his children, who face obstacles to visiting due to expired identification documents.
Khan addressed rumors about his sons' political involvement in Pakistan, following statements from his sister and media reports indicating barred returns for protests. PTI refuted these claims, confirming the sons' plans to visit. Imran Khan, 71, remains imprisoned on charges including corruption and terrorism, subsequent to his 2022 ousting.
