In a pointed critique, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller asserted that India's ongoing purchases of Russian oil are unacceptable, arguing that they help finance the ongoing crisis in Ukraine. In his interview with Fox News, Miller also highlighted India's alleged ties with China concerning oil acquisitions from Russia.
Miller noted that while former President Donald Trump had maintained strong relations with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, there must be a reconsideration of the financial aspects of the war in Ukraine. He emphasized that President Trump explored all options, from diplomatic to financial measures, to achieve peace in the conflict he attributed to the Democratic Party and President Joe Biden.
On trade issues, Miller alleged India imposes substantial tariffs on US goods and cheats on immigration policies, harming American workers. Meanwhile, despite reports of Indian refiners halting Russian oil purchases, state sources rebutted, citing commercial reasons for continued procurement under unsanctioned international conditions.
