In a critical analysis of U.S. foreign policy, former Minister of State for External Affairs, MJ Akbar, likened the current international climate to a volatile game of snakes and ladders, orchestrated by President Donald Trump. Speaking to ANI, Akbar highlighted Trump's drastic policy swings, referencing the sudden declaration of Russia as a foe and subsequent tariffs imposed on India for engaging in trade with Russia.

Akbar noted the inconsistent application of U.S. sanctions, questioning why India faced consequences while China, a larger importer of Russian energy, did not. Meanwhile, India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is in Moscow discussing these trade barriers among other strategic issues with Russian leaders.

Amidst this turbulence, Akbar commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for maintaining a composed and strategic silence in international dealings, emphasizing that India's foreign policy remains focused on the prosperity and security of its own citizens. This stance poses a challenge to maintaining strong ties with the U.S., with Akbar warning America may inadvertently lose a trusted ally by prioritizing punitive measures over collaborative relationships.
