The upcoming Director General-level Border Conference between the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and the Border Security Force (BSF) of India is scheduled from August 25 to 28, 2025, at the BGB Headquarters in Peelkhana, Dhaka. The high-profile meeting will bring together a distinguished Indian delegation, helmed by the BSF Director General.
Key topics on the agenda include preventing border killings, illegal infiltration, and cross-border crimes such as smuggling of drugs and arms. Both countries will explore joint developmental activities near the border and ensure a balanced share of river water. The conference presents an opportunity to address bilateral issues and defuse tensions exacerbated by anti-Bangladesh rhetoric in Indian media.
Additionally, amid escalating tensions, a night curfew under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) was imposed on May 9 in East Khasi Hills, Meghalaya, affecting areas near the border. The curfew, intended to prevent illegal crossing and assembly, has been in effect since its issuance to curb undesirable activities like smuggling.
