In a concerning disclosure before the Senate, Pakistan's Interior Ministry revealed that Islamabad witnessed 567 registered cases of sexual abuse between 2021 and June 2025 — of which 200 involved children, according to Dawn. This information was presented in a written response during a Senate session on Tuesday, spotlighting a disturbing trend of violence.
The authority disclosed that out of the 200 child abuse cases reported, 93 victims were male and 108 female. Alarmingly, only 12 of the 222 accused were convicted, with the majority either still under trial or acquitted. Furthermore, 26 suspects remain at large, prompting concerns over justice and safety.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi's statement highlighted that 567 cases of rape were recorded, resulting in the arrest of 625 suspects. However, only 80 convictions were secured. Meanwhile, 266 cases of missing children have been reported, indicating an ongoing crisis affecting minors. The report further stressed the broader issue of violence against women, with significant percentages having endured physical or sexual abuse without seeking help.
