The Indian Navy's hydrographic survey vessel, INS Sutlej, docked at Port Louis in Mauritius on September 29 for the 18th Joint Hydrographic Survey, according to the Ministry of Defence. This undertaking adheres to a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding on Hydrography outlined during the 14th Joint Committee Meeting earlier this year.

Spanning approximately 35,000 square nautical miles, the survey mission aids capacity-building by training Mauritian officers in hydrographic data collection and processing. The Ministry of Defence views the deployment of INS Sutlej as a testament to the enduring scientific collaboration and strategic maritime ties between India and Mauritius, with a focus on navigational safety and sustainable ocean resource management.

Preceding this effort, INS Sarvekshak concluded the initial phase of a hydrographic survey in Port Louis on January 15, reinforcing the continuous partnership between India and Mauritius. Indian Navy spokespersons have emphasized these activities and cooperation as foundational to fostering regional maritime aspirations in the Indian Ocean Region, aligning with India's SAGAR vision.
