Iran Praises India's Neutral Stance as BRICS Chair Amid Tensions
Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi commended India's impartial leadership as BRICS Chair, ahead of the Foreign Ministers' Meeting. Despite tensions involving Iran, the U.S., and Israel, Iran supports a unified BRICS Declaration. The recent BRICS discussions addressed Middle Eastern conflicts and regional stability efforts.
Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran, expressed appreciation for India's impartiality in its role as Chairperson of BRICS. Speaking to ANI, Gharibabadi emphasized India's fair conduct as the facilitator of this significant international group.
With the BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting on the horizon, Gharibabadi reiterated Iran's desire for a cohesive BRICS Declaration. He highlighted Iran's opposition to any narrative suggesting division within the group, especially amid ongoing tensions involving Israel and the United States, which began on February 28. Despite a tenuous ceasefire between Iran and the U.S., Gharibabadi contended that only one neighboring nation seeks to condemn Iran for alleged attacks.
At a meeting of BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers and Special Envoys last month in New Delhi, a Chair's Summary was released amid lack of consensus. The discussions included vital issues such as the situation in Palestine and Gaza, terrorism, and post-conflict efforts in regions like Syria and Sudan.
