In a significant development underscoring the burgeoning defence relationship between India and Australia, Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Richard Marles stated on Monday that the two nations have 'never been more strategically aligned.' His remarks came during high-level talks with Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in New Delhi.

Marles highlighted that the institutionalisation of defence ties reached a new zenith with the establishment of an annual Defence Ministers' Dialogue. Reflecting on the inaugural dialogue held in Canberra in 2025, he emphasised the concrete outcomes from the partnership, such as a new information-sharing arrangement.

The meetings aim to review and fortify defence cooperation, enhance military interoperability, and explore co-development opportunities. The discussions are set to further strategic trust, promoting security in the Indo-Pacific. An official statement heralded the dialogue as reflective of the growing momentum in the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
