In a stark escalation of tensions in the Persian Gulf, Iran has vehemently condemned the United States for what it terms as aggressive military strikes, marking a significant breach of international law. On Wednesday, Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a strong statement regarding attacks on an Iranian oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz and a telecommunications tower on Qeshm Island.
Iranian authorities assert that these actions violate a ceasefire understanding agreed upon in April, accusing the U.S. of using regional countries as bases for these assaults. The Ministry called out Kuwait and Bahrain for allegedly facilitating the attacks, stating that such actions contravene Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter, which prohibits the use of force against the sovereignty of states.
As tensions mount, Iran warned of using all available means to defend its territorial integrity and sovereignty. The U.S. Central Command confirmed defensive operations following Iranian missile and drone activities, highlighting intercepted threats against regional allies. The situation has left Kuwait on edge, after facing drone attacks on its International Airport, resulting in casualties and damage.
