In a significant development, the Supreme Court on Thursday relaxed the bail conditions for Ashish Mishra, son of former union minister Ajay Mishra, involved in the 2021 Lakhimpur violence case. Under the new terms, Mishra is permitted to visit his family in Lakhimpur on weekends.
The decision by the bench of Justices Surya Kant and N Kotiswar Singh comes after Mishra's lawyer, Siddharth Dave, argued that Mishra had not seen his daughters for four years. Previously, he was only allowed to stay in Lucknow. The modified order permits him to visit Lakhimpur Kheri on specific nights and days.
Mishra is still prohibited from engaging in any political activities in Lakhimpur Kheri. The trial, involving charges of murder and conspiracy, stems from a 2021 incident that left eight people dead. The top court is also overseeing trial proceedings to ensure a swift resolution.
