Russia's Victory Parade Amid Tensions with Ukraine
Russia celebrated the 80th anniversary of its WWII victory over Nazi Germany, with President Xi Jinping in attendance amid tight security due to ongoing tensions with Ukraine. Despite honoring the Soviet Union's role, President Putin acknowledged Western allies' contributions. Russian troops, some with Ukrainian battle experience, participated in the parade.

Russia commemorated the 80th anniversary of the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two on Friday, hosting a parade in Moscow attended by Chinese President Xi Jinping. The event took place under tight security, amid fears of Ukrainian attacks after years of devastating conflict.
While President Vladimir Putin, accompanied by dozens of international leaders, praised the Soviet Union's pivotal role, he also recognized the contributions of Western allies. Putin emphasized the heroism of Soviet soldiers and Allied resistance fighters during the brutal war, which claimed millions of lives.
The celebration included 1,500 Russian troops with battle experience from Ukraine, as well as drones, a key technological innovation of the current war. Although Ukrainian drone attacks have targeted Moscow, a 72-hour ceasefire quelled the threat. Victory Day remains a defining moment for Russians, especially amid ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
