In a significant counter-terror operation, top Lashkar-e-Taiba commander Shahid Kuttay was killed along with two others in Shopian district, Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter occurred on Tuesday after security forces received specific input about the terrorists' presence in the Shukroo Keller area.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation, which quickly escalated into a gunfight when the suspects opened fire. In the ensuing exchange, the three terrorists were neutralized. Authorities identified the deceased as members of the LeT, including Shahid Kuttay and Adnan Shafi, while efforts to ascertain the identity of the third continue.
Kuttay, a top commander and category 'A' terrorist, had been a significant figure within the LeT since joining the ranks in March 2023. He was implicated in several criminal acts, most notably the assassination of a BJP sarpanch at Heerpora. His accomplice, Shafi, joined in October 2024 and was also involved in violent activities, including the murder of a non-local laborer. This operation marks a critical blow to the group's operations in the region.
