The Supreme Court on Tuesday called for a response from Uttarakhand authorities regarding a contempt plea involving the demolition of a registered waqf property. The plea alleges a dargah in Dehradun was demolished without prior notice, despite assurances made before the apex court.
The dargah, registered as a waqf property since 1982, faced demolition in April without notification, conflicting with a previous Supreme Court order. The court had stated that no waqf property should be altered before a pending case on the Waqf (Amendment) Act, 2025 is resolved.
The court has issued notices to Uttarakhand officials and scheduled a hearing for May 15. The plea further criticizes state action violating court orders, emphasizing the site's religious significance and demanding accountability from local authorities.
