The Supreme Court asserted its intention to address the grievances of foreign medical graduates facing extended internship requirements. These mandates were applied to make up for curtailed practical classes during the Covid-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Justices B R Gavai and Augustine George Masih have sought responses from the central government within a six-week timeframe regarding this plea, which aims to provide a structured guideline for compensatory internships.
The petition highlights the plight of graduates, who, after completing online courses supplemented with practical training, are required to undergo additional years of internships in India to be eligible for medical practice domestically.
