The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and its ally, Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), have significantly outperformed opposition parties in the recent Assam panchayat elections. With final results still pending from two districts, preliminary tallies indicate the BJP gained control of 219 Zilla Parishad seats alongside AGP's 23, as reported by the Assam State Election Commission.

Meanwhile, the Congress managed to secure 37 seats, while the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) captured three. In smaller victories, the Raijor Dal, Trinamool Congress, Assam Jatiya Parishad, and Aam Aadmi Party secured a handful of seats. A substantial number of 117 seats were clinched by Independent candidates, highlighting a diverse electoral playing field.

The elections, conducted on May 2 and 7 across 27 districts, marked the first poll following constituency delimitation in the state. Votes were counted beginning Sunday at 8 a.m., for tens of thousands of Gram Panchayat seats, including almost half reserved for women, showcasing a robust democratic exercise in rural governance.
