Ruslan Kravchenko: The New Face of Justice in Ukraine

Ukraine's parliament has officially appointed Ruslan Kravchenko as the new prosecutor general, a significant move given Kravchenko's pivotal role in investigating alleged Russian war crimes during the 2022 occupation of the Kyiv region.

At 35, Kravchenko is not new to leadership, having managed the state tax administration and previously chaired the Kyiv region military administration. He has been a crucial figure in documenting and prosecuting alleged atrocities in Bucha, a town that suffered a harrowing 33-day occupation. Russia, however, continues to refute claims of multiple executions, rapes, and torture during this period.

Kravchenko also has experience as a prosecutor in the treason case against ousted Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych. His appointment fills a vacancy that has persisted since October, following former prosecutor general Andriy Kostin's resignation amidst revelations of officials obtaining fake disability statuses to avoid military service.
