High Compliance in Toy Safety: BIS Ensures Quality Standards Across India

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) reports that 91% of toy samples are compliant with quality standards, reflecting notable improvements in market offerings since the implementation of the Toy Quality Control Order in 2021.

The Director and Head of the Western Regional Lab of BIS, Anil Kapri, highlighted that enhanced enforcement activities have been pivotal in achieving these results. To maintain this trend, BIS consistently increases the number of toy samples drawn for testing, achieving a compliance rate of 98% this fiscal year.

With 1,640 certified toy industries in India, the order mandates conformity to seven Indian standards. The compliance efforts include search and seizure operations, underlining BIS's commitment to tracing non-compliant manufacturers and sellers. Legal consequences for violations ensure a level playing field for quality-assured manufacturers.
