The Supreme Court has stepped in to transfer the investigation against Additional Director General of Police H M Jayaram to the CB-CID as the Tamil Nadu government insisted on maintaining his suspension amidst an ongoing kidnapping case.
A Supreme Court bench, comprising Justices Ujjal Bhuyan and Manmohan, instructed the Madras High Court chief justice to reassign the cases involving Jayaram to a different bench, overturning previous high court orders for police custody.
Senior counsel Siddharth Dave of Tamil Nadu had no objections, as the Supreme Court observed. Jayaram's counsel contested the legitimacy of his suspension, arguing the high court's directives were based on insufficient grounds. The case has been removed from the docket for now.
