The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has successfully trained 380 firefighters from 150 cities across 22 states and Union territories over the past two years. This initiative aims to bolster the firefighters' capabilities in handling major fire incidents, according to a statement by the force on Thursday.
As the only central armed police force with a dedicated fire wing, the CISF took on the mandate to train state firefighters after a directive from Union Home Minister Amit Shah in 2023. The minister tasked the force with training fire personnel from 100 cities, which led to the development of a specialized course to enhance their skills.
In 2023-24, Hyderabad's Fire Service Training Institute conducted 11 training batches, upgrading 274 personnel from 113 cities. By 2025, the Institute expanded its capacity to further train 106 participants from 46 cities. The curriculum covers contemporary firefighting and disaster management, focusing on dense urban environments and industrial areas, demonstrating the evolving challenge of modern threats.
