Ahead of this year's Amarnath Yatra, security in Anantnag district has been significantly bolstered, leading to the apprehension of a suspect flagged by a newly installed facial recognition system. Police confirmed the arrest on Thursday after the system identified the individual as connected to militant activities.

The security operation took place at Langanbal Naka, a strategic checkpoint on the Yatra route. Here, a Facial Recognition System (FRS) employing four high-resolution cameras was put to use. The system successfully detected a suspect, whose facial data matched a security database record.

Officials state that the suspect is an overground worker (OGW) affiliated with a terrorist organization. As the Amarnath Yatra is set to begin on July 3, authorities stress that ensuring the safety of this annual pilgrimage is paramount.
