A 56-year-old man, identified as Dattatray Ganpati Mohite, has been apprehended for his alleged role in orchestrating a multi-crore housing scam in Navi Mumbai. The scam reportedly swindled thousands of investors in the capital with false promises linked to land holdings and high government-secured returns.

According to officials, Mohite was captured in Maharashtra's Raigad while being wanted in several cases. He spearheaded the floundering 'Pragati Valley Project', misleading Delhi investors with fake assurances of land ownership, considerable profits, and unauthorized government endorsements through his dummy firm, Pragati Land & Housing Corporation.

The duplicitous operation trapped victims into investing over Rs 20 crore through checks and cash. Law enforcement agencies continue to probe this extensive conspiracy and seek Mohite's accomplices, as well as any assets acquired through the fraudulent scheme.
