The Congress has expressed disappointment over both the central and Bihar governments' efforts to clean the Ganga River, labeling promises as mere 'election jumla.' They claim that despite publicized projects, pollution levels have worsened, and corruption has undermined the clean-up operations.
Jairam Ramesh, Congress's general secretary, emphasized that planned sewage treatment plants under the Namami Gange initiative have largely failed, with significant funds squandered amid unfulfilled promises. This criticism coincides with Prime Minister Modi's recent tour of Bihar, which featured new inaugurations.
The party further highlights the dire socio-economic and law-and-order situation in Bihar, exacerbating public distress and prompting youth migration. They call attention to the National Green Tribunal's report exposing the inadequacy of existing infrastructure and the lack of genuine progress in purifying the Ganga.
