In a strategic move, South Korea's top trade negotiator, Yeo Han-koo, heads to Washington this week, aiming to address potential U.S. restrictions on foreign chipmakers operating in China. This issue, crucial for the chip industry, will be discussed in the third round of technical tariff talks.
South Korea faces a tight deadline, as ongoing negotiations with the U.S. aim to cut tariffs by July 8. Yeo, however, indicated that the deadline might be extended due to existing political and economic uncertainties in the United States.
Appointed by President Lee Jae Myung, Yeo's mission involves discussing multiple trade concerns, including easing South Korea's import restrictions on U.S. beef, with key U.S. officials at the White House and Congress.
