Chimaram Jat, infamous as the mastermind of a vast narcotics network in western Rajasthan, has been apprehended by police after a manhunt extending over six years. The breakthrough came as part of 'Operation Jhankaar', conducted by the Cycloner team, according to Inspector General of Police (Jodhpur Range), Vikas Kumar. Jat carried a bounty of Rs 1 lakh.
A native of Lilsar village in Barmer district, Jat was reputed for his ability to evade authorities, known for his daring escapes during at least six police raids across states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh. His criminal activities included drug trafficking, attempts to murder, and violations under the Arms Act, revealing a deep-seated threat managed by him and his network.
The arrest was facilitated by the police's strategic monitoring of a drug supplier in the Neemuch-Mandsaur belt. By intercepting communications and employing undercover tactics, the law snagged Jat at a roadside hotel, en route on a truck to the Rajasthan-Madhya Pradesh border. The arrest is hailed as a significant success against narcotics smuggling in the region.
