The Election Commission is undertaking a comprehensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar to ensure that all eligible citizens are correctly registered, and to remove ineligible names. This process aims to bolster the transparency and integrity of the electoral system, especially amid allegations of data manipulation favoring the BJP.
With no such revision having been conducted since 2003, the Commission is addressing factors like rapid urbanization, frequent migration, young voters reaching eligibility, and non-reporting of deaths, alongside potential inclusion of foreign illegal immigrants. Booth-level officers will conduct house-to-house surveys for meticulous verification.
The integrity of this process is underscored by adherence to constitutional and legal provisions related to voter registration as outlined in Article 326 of the Constitution and Section 16 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, ensuring strict compliance during this special revision.
