In a notable verdict, a Delhi court underscored the paramount importance of reformation over punitive measures, stating that if society cannot reform offenders, it is a punishment for society itself.
This was in connection to a forgery case, where three individuals were accused of securing school admissions for affluent children using fraudulent recommendation letters from high-ranking officials, including those from the PMO and Vice President's Secretariat.
The court sentenced Uwais-Ur Rehman and Uday Kumar, who pled guilty, to the time they already served and imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 each, while a third accomplice faced a day's court imprisonment and the same fine.
