The Delhi Police are set to intensify their crackdown on the sale and storage of Chinese manjha, a hazardous kite string, in the national capital. This follows a tragic incident where a 22-year-old man's throat was fatally cut by the banned material, highlighting its persistent danger despite a prohibition enacted in 2017.

Yash Goswami, a young resident of Karawal Nagar, became the latest victim of the sharp string when it sliced his throat near Bara Hindu Rao Hospital in north Delhi. Such incidents have prompted police action, with coordinated raids planned across 15 districts, aiming to seize stockpiles and arrest sellers of the illegal string.

While over 20,000 rolls of Chinese manjha were confiscated last year, the threat persists. Several injuries and fatalities, including that of a seven-year-old girl in July 2023, underline the ongoing menace. A senior police official states that targeted operations will cover major marketplaces in a bid to enforce the existing ban robustly.
