The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) has taken swift action against corruption by arresting a revenue official in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district. The official in question, Liaquat Ali, who was posted as a patwari, faced allegations of demanding and accepting a bribe for completing official procedures.
According to the ACB, Ali originally asked for Rs one lakh as a bribe to enter the complainant's wife's name into the mutation register. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to Rs 70,000, with Ali accepting an initial installment of Rs 30,000 in a sting operation.
The complainant chose not to succumb to the corrupt demands and instead reported the incident to the ACB, leading to a trap being set for the official. Following the arrest, searches conducted at Ali's residence were part of the ongoing investigation, as charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act have been pressed.
