The Mizo Peace Accord, a vital historical milestone, was asserted by MNF president Zoramthanga as an agreement representing the entire Mizo people, not just a pact between the Centre and the MNF. Commemorating its 39th anniversary, the accord was celebrated statewide by the MNF.
No official ceremonies marked the peace accord day, but Zoramthanga addressed the occasion, clarifying its significance. He emphasized that the accord was signed with the MNF in a strong position, ensuring a balanced agreement. It led to Mizoram's elevation to statehood, a transformative moment in the region's history.
The accord also introduced Article 371 G, providing Mizoram with unique protections over religious, social, and land issues, distinguishing it along with Nagaland for such safeguards. As Mizoram continues to honor the accord, it serves as a reminder of the state's hard-won autonomy and cultural identity.
