The sweeping investigation exposed criminal networks from Russia, Eastern Europe, Pakistan, and beyond, exploiting the US health care system. At a press briefing, Matthew Galeotti, head of the Justice Department's criminal division, emphasized the impact on American taxpayers, describing the schemes as theft from hardworking citizens.
Involving nearly 190 federal cases and 90 state cases, this year's crackdowns include a $10 billion urinary catheter fraud. The operation, dubbed Operation Gold Rush, revealed transnational criminal methods, using stolen identities to file fake claims, affecting over a million Americans.
