A special court has handed down life sentences to 12 people involved in a violent case that led to murder 18 years ago, according to officials on Tuesday.
Judge Veena Narayan delivered the verdict, convicting the 12 individuals of serious charges including murder, arson, and offenses under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Each convict also faces a fine of Rs 1.18 lakh, prosecution officer Kripa Shankar confirmed.
Five others also faced justice, receiving three-year sentences for assault-related charges tied to the initial dispute. This case, rooted in local leadership frictions, underscores the enduring impact of community conflicts.
