Call for Tests: Victoria's Childcare Shock

Call for Tests: Victoria's Childcare Shock

Authorities in Victoria, Australia, are urging the testing of around 1,200 children for infectious diseases. This follows the arrest of Joshua Brown, a 26-year-old childcare worker, who faces over 70 charges related to sexual abuse offences against young children.

The alleged incidents occurred between April 2022 and January 2023 at the Creative Garden Early Learning Centre. Brown reportedly worked at 20 different Melbourne childcare facilities. Victoria's chief health officer, Christian McGrath, emphasized the recommendation for testing is a precautionary measure.

The investigation, initiated by the discovery of child abuse material, led to Brown's arrest. He was not previously known to authorities and held a valid permit to work with children. Brown remains in custody, with a court appearance set for September 15, as authorities prioritize notifying affected parents.
