The UP government's 'Operation Conviction,' initiated in July 2023, has resulted in the conviction of more than 97,000 individuals by mid-June, according to an official statement released Tuesday.
ADG Prosecution Deepesh Juneja highlighted the campaign's achievements, pointing to its role as a pivotal force in delivering justice in a timely and effective manner. With 74,388 out of 1,14,029 identified cases resolved, the operation has been instrumental in the conviction of dangerous criminals, leading to 68 death sentences and over 8,000 life imprisonments.
The operation's focus on dismantling organized crime networks saw 395 individuals convicted from 272 cases involving top criminals. Moreover, it has tackled crimes against children under the POCSO Act, with 17 of its death penalties related to such crimes. The campaign's impressive daily average stands at resolving 143 cases and convicting 187 criminals.
