A District Development Council member in Jammu and Kashmir has been arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000, an official statement confirmed on Tuesday.

The accused, Mohammad Shaban Chopan, a resident of Dara Harwan, was caught in a sting operation set up after a complaint from a local school owner. The owner alleged that Chopan organized an official inspection and then demanded a Rs 5,00,000 bribe through his associate, Ghulam Mohammad Khathana.

The complainant paid Rs 50,000 and signed a blank cheque as the first instalment. Upon verifying the claims, the ACB laid a successful trap, leading to the arrest of Chopan and his associate. Further investigations are underway.
