Pakistan is set to assume the presidency of the United Nations Security Council in July 2025. This is part of its two-year stint as a non-permanent member, which commenced in January 2025, following a successful election with 182 out of 193 UN member votes.
Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad noted that Pakistan's leadership would be marked by transparency, inclusivity, and responsiveness. This presidency occurs amid a complex geopolitical landscape, with rising conflicts and humanitarian crises worldwide. Ahmad aims to focus on international peace, multilateralism, and cooperation with regional organizations.
