PKK Disarmament Paves Path to Peace

The Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) may begin disarming "within days," marking a significant step towards resolving its longstanding conflict with Turkey. Omer Celik, spokesperson for Turkey's ruling AK Party, highlighted the imminent disarmament as a crucial development for a terrorism-free Turkey.

In a press conference, Celik refrained from providing a specific timeline for the disarmament but emphasized that the coming days would be "extremely important." The PKK, which has engaged in a violent campaign against the Turkish state for over 40 years, announced plans to cease its armed insurgency in May.

Confidential sources from the PKK in northern Iraq revealed that a small contingent is set to surrender their weapons in Sulaimaniya. Coordinated with Kurdish and Iraqi security authorities, the event is scheduled for next week. This handover is seen as a goodwill gesture, potentially ushering in political and economic stability for Turkey and its neighbors.
