Sweeping Raids in Assam: Over 133 Apprehended for Violating Cattle Law

In a sweeping crackdown on illegal cattle activities, Assam police have apprehended 133 individuals as part of a state-wide drive against violations of the Assam Cattle Preservation Act.
Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Akhilesh Kumar Singh disclosed that the operation focused on curbing unauthorized cattle slaughter and beef sales in restaurants. This comes amidst the legal backdrop where beef consumption is allowed, yet slaughter and sale are restricted in specified areas.
During the raids, law enforcement seized over one tonne of suspected beef from 112 hotels, and the operation is ongoing to enforce compliance with the Act. The authorities plan to continue this crackdown to ensure adherence to the regional legislation.
