The Haryana government has stepped up its efforts to improve the state's sex ratio with an intensified 'Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao' campaign. Launched by the Health and Women and Child Development departments, this initiative aims to boost public engagement using awareness rallies and social media campaigns.
During a recent state task force meeting, Haryana reported an improved sex ratio of 906, up from 904 the previous year, thanks to persistent efforts. Additional Chief Secretary Sudhir Rajpal emphasized the urgent need to curb illegal abortions, promising strict punitive action against offending medical professionals.
In addition to cracking down on illegal practices, Rajpal called for birth registration drives in economically disadvantaged areas and heightened surveillance at community health centers. The administration is determined to further improve these numbers by intensifying actions in lagging districts.
