A Delhi court has imposed a Rs 10,000 penalty on Kapil Arora for filing what the judge termed a 'frivolous' petition. This action highlights the judiciary's effort to prevent 'wealthy litigants' from burdening the judicial system with unnecessary cases.
Kapil Arora, who faced arrest in October 2024 for allegedly evading Goods and Services Tax (GST), sought compensation for what he claimed was an infringement on his liberty. However, the additional sessions judge, Saurabh Partap Singh Laler, upheld the magistrate's decision dismissing his plea.
The court stressed that the misuse of legal procedures by affluent individuals could slow down the justice system, leading to unnecessary delays for other cases. Judge Laler expressed that the judicial system must not be exploited to create chaos or indiscipline.
