The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) criticized Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) for its role in the tragic stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. Eleven people died after a sudden announcement of an IPL victory parade led to mass gatherings without police consent or adequate time for preparation.
The tribunal annulled the suspension of senior IPS officer Vikash Kumar Vikash, who faced repercussions due to the incident. CAT noted that the police, portrayed as lacking divine or magical powers, were unfairly blamed for what was primarily a consequence of RCB's unsanctioned event with limited advance notice.
In response, political figures like Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and BJP Leader R Ashoka made statements highlighting governmental mismanagement. The CAT has opened possibilities for appeals, but currently, all charges against Vikash are quashed, reinstating him with all service-related benefits.
