A Kushinagar court on Tuesday handed a seven-year rigorous imprisonment sentence to Mantu for the dowry-related death of his wife, Indu, an incident that occurred in 2017. The prosecution, under the 'Operation Conviction' initiative, successfully argued for Mantu's conviction, though the court acquitted his parents due to insufficient evidence.
The case, spanning eight years, highlights the societal problem of dowry-related violence. Indu's father, Mohan, accused Mantu and his parents of persistently harassing Indu for dowry, culminating in her alleged murder on August 25, 2017, in Harpur Mafi village.
Authorities emphasized the role of focused legal efforts by Ramkola Police and a district monitoring cell in securing the verdict. Mantu's sentencing came with a fine of Rs 7,000, marking a significant step toward justice in dowry cases.
