In a dramatic incident in Assam's Lakhimpur district, four individuals, including police officers, sustained injuries when a police team attempted to rescue a couple held captive by an enraged mob. The altercation erupted as villagers accused the couple of an illicit relationship.
According to Ghilamora Police Station's Officer-in-Charge, Gakul Chetia, the couple faced the mob's ire after returning from outside the state. The woman, already married, was suspected to be involved with another man. Local suspicion led to their captivity.
Upon arrival, the police encountered intense hostility, with some officers being attacked. A lady constable was injured in the melee. The situation was brought under control after significant effort, and the couple was taken for medical care. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
