Erode was thrust into the limelight on Thursday evening following the tragic death of a 16-year-old student named Aadithya. The incident led to the arrest of two juveniles, raising grim questions about youth violence.
Aadithya, who was a class 12 student at the Government Higher Secondary School in Kumalankuttai, left home for school on Wednesday morning but reportedly skipped classes. That evening, he returned, dressed in plain clothes, to meet his girlfriend, also a student there. Their interaction sparked a confrontation with a group of boys from the same school.
Confronted, Aadithya was allegedly warned by the group not to speak to the girl, as one claimed to be in love with her. In ensuing violence, Aadithya was assaulted and later found unconscious by passersby. He was declared dead at the hospital. An investigation is ongoing, and further developments are awaited following the autopsy report.
