The Supreme Court on Monday criticized the Samajwadi Party for 'fraudulently occupying' office space in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, for a mere Rs 115, highlighting a blatant 'misuse of political power.'

Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi dismissed the party's appeal against the eviction order by the Nagarpalika Parishad of Pilibhit. Senior advocate Siddharth Dave argued that the party had been paying rent, but authorities were still adamant about eviction. However, the bench concluded it was a case of 'fraudulent occupation.'

The court advised the party to seek redress in the high court and pointed out significant delays in filing appeals against previous orders. It refused to express any opinion on the ongoing civil court case regarding the eviction.
