In a significant crackdown against illegal activities, police in Assam's Sonitpur district arrested seven individuals after a cache of arms and ammunition was confiscated. The operation aimed at thwarting the formation of a criminal gang intent on carrying out heinous activities such as dacoity and extortion.
The Sonitpur police, led by Senior Superintendent Barun Purkayastha, conducted the operation in the Tharaibil foothills bordering Arunachal Pradesh. Following rigorous raids since Sunday night, authorities dismantled a makeshift criminal camp and recovered weapons, including two pistols, country-made rifles, and knives.
The arrest of five individuals at the scene was followed by the apprehension of two more suspects with the assistance of police from adjacent districts. This coordinated effort highlights the commitment of the Assam police to maintain law and order by targeting criminal elements.
