The arrest of a 26-year-old woman identified as Ayesha in connection with an interstate religious conversion racket has stirred the political arena in Goa. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant revealed in the legislative assembly that the arrest was a collaborative effort with Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and local police.

Sawant called for the enactment of an anti-conversion law to tackle incidents of 'love jihad'. The discussion gained prominence after BJP MLA Premendra Shet and AAP legislator Cruz Silva raised the issue, demanding accountability and legislative action from the government.

The investigation by the Uttar Pradesh police, which began in Agra, unveiled a network involving multiple arrests across six states. Goa's local authorities are now conducting tenant verification to curb unauthorized residents, as Sawant stressed zero tolerance for forced religious conversions in the state.
