The Supreme Court of India has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to register an FIR in relation to the brutal custodial torture faced by a police constable in Jammu and Kashmir.
The apex court has mandated the Union Territory administration to pay Rs 50 lakh to the victim for the inhuman abuse he suffered. A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta highlighted the grievous injuries sustained by the constable while illegally detained, stressing the egregious violation of Article 21.
The court has also demanded a comprehensive investigation into systemic issues at the Kupwara Joint Interrogation Centre, urging swift action to rectify wrongful detentions and ensure accountability.
